Verse & Voice – Sojourners – 18 December 2017

December 18, 2017

verse of the day

You shall not oppress a resident alien; you know the heart of an alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

– Exodus 23:9

voice of the day

Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

– Emma Lazarus

prayer of the day

God of the exiled, may we be people of faith who welcome our neighbors with love, grace, and humility. May we be ever mindful of your call to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and welcome in the strangers.
