Singing a Song of Praise

February 16, 2023
A beautiful statue of a garden sprite at the hotel where we have stayed over 100 nights during the journey with my Mom who died in 2017 and with my Dad to this day. She brings us much comfort and peace in her wonder and mystery.

There is not a flower that opens, not a seed that falls into the ground, and not an ear of wheat that nods on the end of its stalk in the wind that does not preach and proclaim the greatness and mercy of God to the whole world. There is not an act of kindness or generosity, not an act of sacrifice done, or a word of peace and gentleness spoken, not a child’s prayer uttered, that does not sing hymns to God. — Thomas Merton in The Seven Story Mountain (p. 161-162)

These words from today’s end of day reading from Thomas Merton: Book of Hours spoke to my heart after a very challenging day. May God continue to lead us in such a song of daily praise!
