Love – A Reminder

There are days when one wonders… when one struggles to recover the plot or the path. On those days, this is a beautiful reminder:
The beginning of love is the will to let those we love be perfectly themselves, the resolution not to twist them to fit our own image. If in loving them we do not love what they are, but only their potential likeness to ourselves, then we do not love them: we only love the reflection of ourselves we find in them. – Thomas Merton (No Man Is an Island p. 168)
Thank you, Thomas Merton, for this reminder ♥️
Michael, I have been re-reading The Good Samaritan from Seasons of Celebration this past week. Merton’s comments on p.142-147 expand on this, linking mercy (chesed) with love.
Thanks, Paul! I’ll visit that section
