Loving God and Others – A Reflection
So, it has been a day of work
It has been a day of reflection
It has been a day of discernment
Some deep conversations
I am so thankful for colleagues and friends in our connectional family
It has also been a day of prayer for our deeply divided nation and world
The words of Thomas Merton ring true to my heart
So instead of loving what you think is peace, love {others} and love God above all else. And instead of hating the people you think are warmongers, hate the appetites and the disorder in your own soul, which are the causes of war. If you love peace, then hate injustice, hate tyranny, hate greed — but hate these things in yourself, not in another. (Thomas Merton: Passion for Peace, p. 38)
Lord help us to be, in the words of St Francis of Assisi, instruments of your peace…
