Compline – A Reflection

May 19, 2019

So many nights before I drift off to sleep, tears fall… for so many who suffer… for so many who mourn… for those who walk with them… today I was overwhelmed by tears as we sang The Lord’s Prayer… to be honest, I don’t know how I made it through worship. Yet another family in our parish has had death visit them… parents aren’t supposed to bury their children. At times like this, I simply lift this humble Compline prayer to the Spirit…

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or
weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who
sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless
the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the
joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.
