Evening Prayer – 8 November 2016
The sun has set and the Vesper Lights flicker and glow
A nation is divided
Hatred and fear have driven wedges even between families
Somewhere we have lost the ability to collaborate
Somewhere we have lost the ability to cooperate
Somewhere our leaders have forgotten about selfless service
On this night, Lord, my heart aches
On this night, Lord, my prayers are groans too deep for words
While I look at this nation I remember
I remember families who mourn the loss of loved ones
I think about funeral services I will be officiating at
I also think about brave peace workers in North Dakota
Standing up for Mother Earth and against injustice
I think about the victims of hate and terror in Syria
I think about all who suffer because of humanity’s depraved indifference
Yes, Lord, I ponder, remember, and pray
Lord, tomorrow the sun will rise
Lord, a nation and world will continue to be in turmoil
In such a position, I come before you
Lord, may your Light pierce the darkness
Lord, may your Healing touch reach out
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer
Dona Nobis Pacem et in Terra
Grant Us Peace on Earth
Peace on the Earth you created
Pour out your healing balm upon us
Pour out your Spirit of reconciliation upon us
Pour out your Spirit of Peace
Again I pray… Dona Nobis Pacem et in Terra
