A Sonnet for St. Francis
Thank you, Malcolm! May we be about rebuilding today… Lord knows too much of the church is still in ruins…
St. Francis Day falls on the 4th of October so I thought I would repost this sonnet which reflects the way Francis responded to Christ’s call by casting away the rich trappings he had inherited and embracing holy poverty.The sonnet, which I wrote shortly after the election of the new Pope, is also a prayer that Pope Francis the 1st will enable the wider church to do the same!
