Evening Prayer – 2 April 2017

The sun has set and the Vesper lights flicker and glow
The crosses on the wall are all so intricate and artistic in design
Yet, Lord, the cross you hung on was an implement of torture
A sadistic and cruel device meant to prolong the agony and suffering of death
As we enter the final week of Lent, Lord, help us to understand
Help us to comprehend both the depth of your love and the depth of your suffering
You suffered, Lord, on our behalf
Your love overcame the darkness of this world
Your love overcame the hatred of this world
How difficult it must have been to drink from that cup
How difficult it must have been to see the ones you loved desert you
Yet, you forgave each one
Lord, may that same forgiveness and peace be present today in this world of darkness
Lord, may that same peace transform the hatred and divisiveness
Lord, in your mercy, hear this prayer
Dona Nobis Pacem et in Terra
Grant Us Peace on Earth
A wee prayer from the heart of your Padre…
