Evening Prayer – 6 January 2017

The sun has set and the Vesper Lights flicker and glow 

Epiphany has come

Looking at last year’s prayer I ponder

It was a prayer for victims of violence and warfare

Today there is bloodshed in a Ft Lauderdale Airport

Violence continues unabated around the world 

Lord, you must surely weep with frustration and despair

The children you created cannot live together in peace

Love seems to be devalued

Hatred and Fear are the currency du jour

Yet on this day we remember

Three spiritual leaders of another faith

They brought gifts to the Prince of Peace 

In their gifts, perhaps we may see Hope

That people of different faiths and backgrounds

People all created in Your image

We can work together to seek peace

We can ALL be Your light in the darkness 

Lord, give us the strength and the resolve

So that we may stand up to hatred in all its forms 

So that we may shine the light of hope, love, and peace

Lord, in your mercy, hear this prayer

Dona Nobis Pacem et in Terra 

Grant Us Peace on Earth
