Evening Prayer – 4 July 2016

The sun has set and the Vesper Lights flicker
After a long day of contemplation
A long walk for reflection and photography
An opportunity to see my friend the Bald Eagle
The crowds, Lord, were at times overwhelming
Do they understand what this day is?
It isn’t about exceptionalism
It isn’t about pride
It isn’t about idolatry
It isn’t about fireworks
It is about an imperfect idea of freedom
That freedom must be based on love
Love for ALL God’s children
No room for labels or bigotry
No room for walls
There must be room for healing
Recognizing the suffering of the oppressed
The first nation who’s land was stolen
All who have felt the lash of slavery and oppression
All who’s faith is considered “different”
Until the day when we recognize that ALL men and women are created equal, not just the so-called exceptional few
Until the day when we are judged not by the color of our skin or our sexual orientation or religion, but by the content of our character
Until then, dear Lord, challenge us to be the difference in a world of hatred and fear
Lord, hear this prayer for ALL of your children
Dona Nobis Pacem
Grant Us Peace
A wee prayer from the reflective heart of your Padre…
