The Bible and Metaphors–The Hem of God’s Robe

The hem of God’s garment is my own metaphor used to describe Isaiah’s vision recorded in Isaiah 6:1. I checked a few Bible translations and they describe it as the train of the Lord’s robe, the lower part of his robe, the edges of the robe, ect. filling the temple. In my minds eye, I see this lower edge as the hem. I have chosen the hem instead of the lower edge purposefully, thinking of the bleeding woman who was healed by touching the hem of Jesus’s robe.
I love this Old Testament image of the entire temple being filled with just the edge of God’s robe. God is so much more than we can understand! In this vision the angels were calling to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” God’s…
