The Bible and Metaphors–Living Water

I’ve been thinking a good bit about water as a metaphor and living water in particular.  It’s such a strange phrase but I never thought of it as odd before now.  I think we get so used to hearing something that we just accept it without thought. 

This morning I woke up thinking about the woman at the well.  Jesus offered her living water. What other scriptures, I wondered, speak of living water and what exactly does it mean?  Jesus offered the woman living water and in Jeremiah God is called the fountain of living water.  I’ve been thinking about the Samaritan woman from John 4 that Jesus met at the well and offered living water to.  We know that she was considered the lowest of the low…a Samaritan, a woman, and someone with questionable character.  (I still say that even though she…
