Epiphany Mountain – Evening Prayer – 5 January 2016

On 13 December I was sitting in my office and looking out the window when I saw what looked to me like three trees marching up to the top of the peak on the left of the picture. All of a sudden, I was struck by the thought that this could well be an Epiphany moment. Three trees representing the three gifts given to Jesus as a youngster by the wise men. Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh were given to him. Gold symbolizing the riches of a king. Frankincense symbolizing the priestly role. Myrrh which was used to prepare the body for burial.
Lord, like the trees ascending the mountain I come before you
What gifts to I have to bring?
Gold, Frankincense, Myrrh… Gifts such as that I do not have
I bring my spirit, my body, my life
Often battered and worn, yet I bring them before you now
As the Vesper lights are lit my prayers ascend to you
Accept the gifts I bring to you, O Lord
My heart and my spirit… aching to serve you and love you
All that I have… All that I am… I bring before you
The prayers of many… Silence too deep for words… I bring before you
The gift of your love is more precious than silver or gold
It is more precious than gold, frankincense, or myrrh
Thank you for that gift and for the opportunity to come into your presence
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers for the world you created

A wee prayer from the heart of your Padre on this eve of Epiphany
