Evening Prayer – 21 December 2015

Sunset over the Air Base in South West Asia where I was deployed in 2007

Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan where I was deployed in 2005
While my heart holds those in my church family who are in need this night
I also think of my family in uniform
It has been over four years since I hung up the uniform
Yet not a day goes by that I don’t lift a prayer for them
Escaping the headlines because they are no longer newsworthy
Today we hear the news that six Americans were killed by a suicide attack in Afghanistan
Killed near Bagram Air Base where I spent time in 2005
Lord, bring comfort to the families as they receive the news
Lord, bring comfort to the teams who had to deliver the tragic news
Lord, in the midst of the holiday season, help us to remember
Not all are safe and secure during the day or at night
I cry out to you, Lord, the Prince of Peace… We need your Peace!
Lord, my prayer for this world tonight and every day and night is this
Dona Nobis Pacem
Grant Us Peace
A wee prayer from your reflective Padre who mourns the senseless loss of more lives in a world gone mad…
