Monday spiritual Ruminations: a call to rest

“…now it is evening…”,

So the evensong chant begins

Luring and lulling us into rest.

Meanwhile

The velvet night descends

And candles slowly dawn a vigil of light.

Prayers are whispered into pillows

And the day is released

Floating into the soft consolation the night brings like grandmothers arms wrapping her little ones and cuddling them to peaceful sleep.

Sleep now wherever you lie

And may the peace of the One who is peace

Descend upon you

Remain with you

And grant you sweet, deep rest.

Amen.
