Blessed Are the Peacemakers
Well said…
Why I'm a progressive Christian
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9
Much has been made of the “soldier of God” aspect of Christianity (2 Timothy 2:3-4) Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer; and I agree with it… in context. Read on, and verse 14 says Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.
Has the soldier metaphor been taken too far? (Literally as well as figuratively?) I saw a picture of a gun called “Peacemaker” with that verse (Matthew 5:9) under it. Really? Peace through violence? I’ve heard the justifications and the rhetoric, but bigger guns DO NOT bring peace!
